Impressive Performances at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine

The 2023 NFL Scouting Combine is officially underway in Indianapolis, and Thursday marked the start of measurements and on-field workouts.[0] Prospects from all over the country converged on Lucas Oil Stadium to showcase their athleticism and put their best foot forward in front of NFL scouts and general managers.

Tennessee edge rusher Byron Young and Northwestern edge Adetomiwa Adebawore both impressed with their performances.[1] Young weighed in 22 and ran the 40-yard dash in 4.49 seconds with a 1.61 split.[2] Adebawore was an impressive 6-foot-1 and a half, 282 pounds and ran 4.49 seconds in the 40-yard dash with a 1.61 yard split.[3] He also posted a 37.5-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot, 5 inch broad jump.

Auburn linebacker Owen Pappoe had the fastest 40-yard dash on the day at 4.39 seconds.[4] His vertical jump measured 35.5 inches, and he performed the bag drills with ease. Clemson edge-rusher Trenton Simpson also had a good day, posting a 4.43 second 40-yard dash and 25 inch vertical jump.

Pittsburgh defensive lineman Calijah Kancey ran a 4.67 second 40-yard dash, the fastest time recorded by a defensive tackle at the combine since 2003. He also had a 10-foot-8 broad jump and 37 1/2-inch vertical leap, showcasing his agility and athleticism. Iowa linebacker Jack Campbell also had a good day, measuring in at 6-foot-5 and 249 pounds before posting a 6.74-second three-cone effort, a 10-foot-8 broad jump, a 37 1/2-inch vertical leap and a 1.59-second 10-yard split.

Vanderbilt linebacker Anfernee Orji was another standout, running a 4.53 second 40-yard dash and posting a 38.50 inch vertical jump. Georgia edge rusher Robert Beal Jr. also had a good day, running a 4.48 40-yard dash, while Alabama edge Will Anderson Jr. ran a 4.60 second 40-yard dash. Auburn edge Derick Hall posted a 4.55 second 40-yard dash and TCU LB Dee Winters ran a 4.49 second 40-yard dash.
